Frequently asked questions
- What is my Chinese name?
- If no one has given you one, you don't have a Chinese name yet. Writing your English name in Chinese sounds (Emily becomes 艾米丽) gives you a transliteration, which reads as a foreign name. A Chinese name has a Chinese family name and a given name chosen for its meaning and sound, like 罗安然.
- How do I get a Chinese name?
- Ask a native speaker you trust, pick one from a list, or have one chosen for you here. Whichever you choose, check the meaning, the gender impression, the era it suggests and how it sounds aloud before you use it.
- Can I just translate my English name?
- You can write it in Chinese sounds with our free converter, and that's what Chinese speakers will use for your English name. It won't sound like a Chinese name, though. If you want one, the family name can still echo yours, like 罗 for Lawson.
- How is this different from asking ChatGPT for a Chinese name?

- No. Every name has already been checked for a real family name, familiar characters, tones, unlucky homophones and slang, and reviewed as a whole name, so you can use it as delivered.
